Saturday in Bangkok can either be full of crowds or usual activities. Check out these activities from a semi-local and start exploring what Bangkok has to offer.
Since I’ve lived in Thailand for 1.5 years, I’ve done all the main tourist things that people do when they first come to Bangkok. So in this post, I’m skipping all the markets and shopping and food to show you what you can do when you happen to have extra time in the city or if you’re looking for something a little different to do.
- Visit the airplane graveyard
- Go to a theme cafe
- Ride bikes around the ‘The Green Lung’ of Bangkok
- Go to the top of the tallest building for sunset
Airplane Graveyard
Spend about 30-45 minutes here
The airplane graveyard is hidden among the chaos of Bangkok away from the main hub. There are 3 planes that you can explore, but unless you are really into climbing you don’t need spend a ton of time here. This place only exists for cool photos. There is a gatekeeper, which seems to just be a family that lives on the property. They will charge 200 baht per person (about $6 USD).
Theme Cafe
Spend about 1 hour here
So far I’ve visited 3 theme cafes in Bangkok; The Unicorn Cafe, The Husky Cafe, and The Rabbit Cafe.
The Unicorn Cafe is a restaurant where you can order food and drinks and stay for as long as you like. They even have unicorn onesies that you can rent or buy for those that REALLY want the full experience.
The Rabbit Cafe is quite small but has no shortage of cute bunnies. The entrance fee is 100 baht or you can buy 100 baht of food and drink instead.
The Husky Cafe requires a purchase of a 500 baht (about $15 USD) ticket and only allows a certain amount of people inside during the 2-hour sessions. Your ticket includes 2 complimentary drinks and one hour of playtime with the dogs.
The Green Lung
Spend at least 3 hours here
This is my favorite mini getaway right in the city for a Saturday in Bangkok and should be on your Thailand bucket list. For 50 baht (about $1.60 USD) you can rent a bicycle for the whole day and ride around a little island in the middle of Bangkok! It even comes with a fresh coconut upon return of the bike.
This was definitely a fun experience and I highly recommend it. The easiest way to get to the island is to take the BTS to Bang Na station, hire a motorbike taxi to take you to Bang Na Pier, and catch the ferry for 7 baht across the river. If you get lost just follow the locals!
You’ll ride along small elevated paths. Most of them are hidden and unmarked so you’ll have to keep your eye out for them. Along the way, you might see some monitor lizards and monkeys. If you don’t know what monitor lizards are, they look like alligators and can be a little scary. All you have to do is watch where you’re going and don’t fall off the path!
On the north end of the island is a small park where you can bird watch and have a picnic.
King Power Mahanakhon Tower
Spend about 2 hours here
This building is one of the newest towers on the Bangkok skyline. At 314 meters you can take in the sites of the city with a 360-degree view. At 310 meters you can check out this glass floor. A few floors down there is an augmented reality experience with the tower app that you can download. It will give you information about the other buildings that you can see from the tower.
The experience is very family friendly with balloon animals and art activities for the kids. Tickets are sold on the tower website and in person. They are pricey at 950 baht (about $30 USD), but if you go to any other rooftop bar in Bangkok you’ll probably be spending that much on drinks anyway.
Of course, you can do these activities any day of the week.
Thanks for reading and if you can any recommendations about what to do in Bangkok leave them in the comments below!
That aircraft boneyard looks so cool – I would never have known! Thanks for popping past our site too.
I didn’t even notice it was there the first time. I walked right past it!
Wow, these suggestions are amazing! I went to Bangkok last year, but I will be going there again soon, thanks for the tips!
